Perry was born July 25, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois to Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. Her first roles on television included two roles in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne, the character portrayed by her mother. Her parents, however, were not keen to let her take on acting roles until she was an adult fearing the effect of stress. Perry says she didn't want to become an actor during highschool but decided to start playing as a way to make friends while at Northwestern University when she switched to the university from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, relocated into New York in search of television roles. Her small part was on shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, homesickness led her to California to find theater work. Perry was a part of the cast with her mother in The Other Place at Broadway, back in 2013. In 2015 she performed alongside her father and Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Anna Christie on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry was in nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017, she starred in her own recurring part on the ABC drama about politics Scandal which starred her father. The actress also portrayed in the role of a young Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon, which is a CBS spin-off of The Big Bang Theory. The role was given an audition to the actress, even though she was a cousin with the role.
